Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) - WHO standard  

Elyon Marketing is a reliable supplier of pre-treated Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) mosquito nets. These nets are impregnated with odourless, biodegradable and a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide such as Deltamethrin, Permethrin or Alphacypermethrin that is mixed in resin, coating the netting fibres. It works by killing and repelling mosquitoes.

 

There are two types of LLINs. There is one which is polyester netting and the insecticide is bound to the external surface of the netting fiber using a resin and another which incorporates the insecticide into a polyethylene fiber which then releases the insecticide slowly over 5 years.

 

A progressive release of insecticide from the resin guarantees retention of the net's efficacy even after 20 washes.

 

When calculating the cost of LLINs for large scale malaria prevention campaigns the cost should be divided by the number of years of expected life, hence a slightly more expensive net may be cheaper over time. In addition the logistical costs of replacing nets should be added to the calculation.

 

However much you dislike using chemicals if you want to avoid malaria and other, potentially fatal illnesses it is imperative that you sleep under an impregnated net.

 

We supply environment friendly nets as it reduces the total exposure of insecticide in the environment. The nets require no re-treatment or dipping and a dirt repellent features has been added to keep it clean longer.

Indoor Nets

 

Four Point Canopy Nets (Rectangular Nets): The most popular of all mosquito nets are the four point canopy style nets that cover the bed on all four sides. Rectangular mosquito nets can be attached with strings to the ceiling and are also suitable for beds with a framework. Rectangular nets provide maximum space underneath the mosquito net and are especially recommended for rooms with low ceilings. All rectangular nets have two overlapping openings in the length side of the bed. The single net has one overlapping opening. 

 

 

Single Point Nets (Conical Nets): This has a fold up pop out steel ring and has no opening. This type of mosquito nets is completely enclosed, ensuring that nothing can sneak into the bed. The edges can either drape onto the floor, or be tucked under the mattress. This is a great item for travellers into areas where mosquitoes are a problem, especially Africa and Central America.

Alternatives

Mosquito nets do reduce air flow to an extent and sleeping under a net is hotter than sleeping without one, which can be uncomfortable in tropical areas without air-conditioning. One alternative for reducing mosquito bites is to use a fan to increase air flow as mosquito prefers still air.
